Rescheduled public hearing set for Tuesday, safety measures in place

A public hearing regarding the annexation of property for a Casey’s Gas Station to be built brought in so many people that it had to be rescheduled two weeks ago.

The meeting was rescheduled for Tuesday and the Plan Commission has safety measures in place to accommodate the anticipated large crowd.

As always, the board lets everyone speak who wants to, but in order to keep attendees within Illinois guidelines, members are encouraged to email their comments, questions and concerns, where they will still be read during the meeting.

Those emailing comments, need to email them to jsmith@newlenox.net before 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. If you’re unable to email, drop off written comments at the lower level of Village Hall before 4 p.m.

Because of the large gathering expected, anyone wanting to attend can enter at the upper level of Village Hall. Attendees that plan on speaking, will be given a number and speakers will be called into the Council Chambers, sworn in, and given an opportunity to speak in small groups.

Once one group finishes speaking, they will be asked to leave the chambers and another group will be sworn in. That process will be continued until everyone who wants to speak has a chance to.

Areas will be set up throughout Village Hall with the ability to hear entire meeting while maintaining social distancing.
