Joliet Police Department to hold Santa’s Cop event

Police run program for children in need during holiday season

The Joliet Police Department will hold its annual Santa’s Cops program for children in need at Walmart.

The program will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Walmart, 1401 Route 59.

Santa’s Cops is a program in which children in need from the Joliet community are given an opportunity to shop with a member of the Joliet Police Department. There are 85 children who have been pre-selected to receive a gift card for shopping during Saturday’s event.

The gift cards are made possible by year-round fundraising by police department members.

“We at the Joliet Police Department are excited to once again host our Santa’s Cops event with the hope of brightening the holiday season for these children in need from the Joliet area,” Joliet Interim Police Chief Robert Brown said in a statement.

Brown said the program serves as another example of the police department’s members “giving back to Joliet in the spirit of volunteerism.”

Saturday’s Santa’s Cops program will be the 32nd year that the police department has held the event.
