Joliet, Bolingbrook airports earn state capital improvement grants

The funding is part of $94 million in investments IDOT announced

The Joliet Park District has increased fuel prices at Joliet Regional Airport, where rental rates for hangar space increase Wednesday.

Two airports located in Will County received state grants for improvement projects, state officials announced this week.

Bolingbrook’s Clow International Airport and the Joliet Regional Airport will benefit from thousands of dollars for improvements as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, according to a news release.

Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Transportation said the funding represents the largest statewide capital investment program for airports in the state’s history.

“Crucially, these dollars are going first and foremost to projects that might not otherwise be eligible for the full federal funding that they need to finish,” Pritzker said in a statement. “We want our airports throughout the state to be the best in the nation, and these airport grants are making a real difference.”

At the Joliet airport, about $688,000 in state funds were allocated to rehabilitate the airport’s automobile parking lot.

Clow International Airport in Bolingbrook will receive about $67,000 to replace a rotating beacon and another $2.1 million to construct a replacement parallel taxiway.

The projects will be paid for with both the state and local funding, the state said.

The Joliet Regional Airport serves both corporate and casual flyers and offers flying lessons.

Clow International Airport hosts more than 70,000 landings and takeoffs each year and features the Illinois Aviation Museum.
