Lewis University recognized for being among best schools for male nurses

This is the third straight year Lewis has received the honor

Lewis University received recognition for being among the top schools for male nurses by a national organization for the third straight year.

The American Association for Men in Nursing named Lewis University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences as one of the best schools for men in nursing during its annual conference in October, according to a news release.

The AAMN Recognition Review Committee cited the university’s history, consistency, quality and commitment to creating an inclusive environment for men training to become professional nurses.

“Lewis University continues to demonstrate strong support for men in nursing,” the AAMN reviewers said.

The committee also pointed to a peer mentorship program as “a strong example of how nursing students can benefit from the experience of male alumni that serve as formal and informal mentors.”

The review also stated the university has a strong plan for recruiting and hiring male faculty.

The AAMN also recognized Lewis University’s student group Men Entering Nursing for its outreach events to high school students to encourage young men to consider nursing as a profession.

Lewis’ College of Nursing and Health Sciences encompasses the fields of nursing, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology and exercise and movement science.
