Lewis University in Romeoville will host a conference later this month to prepare Latino high school students for life after graduation.

The school will hold its Si Se Puede conference, Spanish for “yes we can,” Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. High school students and their families can access tools for success in college and other career options at the conference, according to a news release.

The conference also aims to expose students to a myriad of educational and career paths.

The Si Se Puede conference will be offered in English and Spanish.

There also will be workshops on college financial aid, applying for college, student health and safety, supporting Latino families, and for hearing the journeys of Lewis University students and graduates.

Joanna Maravilla, an assistant professor of educational leadership at Lewis, will deliver the keynote address at the conference. The first generation college student recently completed her doctoral degree for which she examined the impact of curriculum and language ideologies on the success of Latino students in public education.

The conference is free and open to the public. To register, visit lewisu.edu/sisepuede for more information.
