A patron of the store noticed a wire connected to a small camera underneath a bathroom sink

Bolingbrook, crime

A Bolingbrook man was arrested and charged for allegedly setting up a small camera in the family restroom of a local Walmart, police said.

The incident arose Wednesday when officers were called to the Walmart, 200 S. Bolingbrook Drive, around 6 p.m. for “suspicious circumstances,” according to a Bolingbrook police statement.

While in the restroom, a patron of the store noticed a wire hanging underneath a sink. The patron found a small camera and a battery pack upon further inspection.

When officers arrived, they seized the camera. Investigators determined the camera was set up by an employee of the store.

They identified the alleged offender as Juan Jose De La Cruz Alfaro, 40, from the 200 block of Aspect Court in Bolingbrook. Police said they arrested De La Cruz at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Police added that investigators identified and notified several victims that their images were captured by the camera.

De la Cruz was charged with four counts of unauthorized video recording and was booked at Will County Jail on Thursday.

He was scheduled to appear in court on Friday, according to county records.
