The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a temporary Interstate 80 ramp closure on Tuesday for northbound Center Street as it steps up construction on the highway.
The closure will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting.
The ramp from Meadow Avenue to northbound Center Street will also be closed during that time. Motorists are advised to use the Larkin Avenue, which also is Illinois 7, or Chicago Street, which also is U.S. 52/Illinois 53, as alternative routes during the temporary closure.
The ramps will be closed for pavement patching, but IDOT also is launching a larger project that was would start affecting traffic patterns this week.
IDOT planned to begin overnight work on Monday for installation of concrete barriers for a bridge replacement project that starts next week and continues until late 2022. The overnight work will require lane shifts and closures on both sides of I-80 between Chicago and Briggs streets this week from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday.
IDOT is replacing eastbound I-80 bridges over Hickory Creek, Richards Street and Rowell Avenue, and the westbound bridge over Richards Street.
