Plainfield residents will notice roadwork which will require a detour through the village’s downtown area starting this week.

Lockport Street will be closed to traffic between Route 126 (Main Street) and Route 59 (Division Street), the village announced in a news release.

The section will be closed to accommodate concrete, asphalt and brick reconstruction work within the roadway as part of the village’s Streetscape Refresh project. The village anticipates the closure will last through May 21.

Motorists will need to take a detour route via Route 126 and Route 59. Traffic will be able to use the local side streets to arrive at businesses. Parking on side streets will be allowed and local businesses will remain open.

North-South traffic on intersecting side streets will be maintained as construction allows.

Plainfield Mayor John Argoudelis shared a video of business owners along Lockport Street urging residents to support them during the closure. He said the contractors have been directed to expedite completion of the construction project.

“Our small businesses have struggled through Covid and need our support more than ever,” Argoudelis said in the post. “We will get through this closure together.”
