The village of Romeoville earned recognition as a 2020 Tree City USA honoree by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Romeoville earned the distinction for its “commitment to effective urban forest management,” according to a village news release.

“We are always looking to keep Romeoville beautiful,” Mayor John Noak said in the release. “Trees are a major element in that strategy, and we are glad to be recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation for our efforts.”

Romeoville earned the honor by meeting the program’s requirements: having a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

The village said it plants about 150 trees a year and reimburses part of the cost for residents to replace trees on parkways.
