The village of Romeoville is moving forward with renovations to its recreational amenities with the help of more than $382,000 in grant funds.

The funds come from an Open Space and Land Acquisition and Development grant and will go toward improvements at Lake Strini, according to a news release.

The Village Board on Wednesday approved a contract with Integral Construction to undertake the renovations. Construction on the project is expected to begin in the spring with completion expected in March of 2022.

“We look forward to the new nature experiences Lake Strini will be able to provide for our residents, students, and visitors,” Mayor John Noak said in the release. “We would like to thank our state legislators for approving the funding that made the OSLAD grant and this project possible.”

When completed, the new Lake Strini will feature more native vegetation, a boardwalk extending across the lake, a butterfly garden, a rain garden, multiple stone outcropping fishing stations, sunning steps and decks.

There will also be a new bike repair station, fitness stations and two baggo games for use.

The nearby park is frequented by local groups due to its ecological role and as the only fishing spot for the public.
