Foster: Supreme Court’s upholding of Obamacare a victory of millions of Americans

Republicans, others, have repeatedly challenged the health care law in court

Congressman Bill Foster, D-Naperville, can be seen speaking to the media Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020, at the Ken Christy Post Office in Aurora, Ill., during a press conference condemning President Donald Trump's effort to limit the United States Postal Service.

U.S. Rep. Bill Foster praised the Supreme Court’s ruling to dismiss a challenge to the Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as “Obamacare.”

Foster, D-Naperville, said in a statement the high court’s ruling means the ACA is the law of the land. Republicans and others have repeatedly filed legal challenges to the Obama-era law which was passed over a decade ago.

The law has provided access to health care for millions of Americans through subsidies and insurance exchanges.

“After a decade of Republican efforts to dismantle the ACA, today’s ruling is a victory for tens of millions of Americans who are able to access lifesaving health care coverage because of the ACA’s protections,” Foster said in his statement.

Foster added voting to pass the ACA was “one of my proudest votes as a Member of Congress.”
