Proposal for truck tire shop stalled

BF Tire likely to come back to council for approval in June

A proposal for a truck tire shop on Broadway Street was pulled off the agenda of the Joliet City Council meeting on Tuesday.

Attorney Joseph Mazzone, who represents BF Tire, said the proposal will likely be brought back to the City Council for consideration in June.

BF Tire located at Broadway and Hutchins streets has requested a zoning variation and special use permit to install and repair tires for semitrailer cabs and other trucks.

The proposal goes to the City Council for a final vote after being rejected by the Zoning Board of Appeals, which voted 5-0 in January not to recommend approval.

The item was included in the council agenda. But City Manager James Capparelli told the council at its workshop meeting on Monday that the proposal was being pulled at the request of the applicant.

The council did not discuss the matter.

Zoning board members had contended the proposal did not suit the neighborhood when they voted against it. City staff has listed 17 conditions for approval mainly to address truck maneuvering and parking at the location.

One person living in the area objected to the proposed use at the zoning board meeting.

But Mazzone said the owner of BF Tire had surveyed the immediate neighborhood and found no objections.
