Members of the Joliet Public Schools District 86 union provided 40 lunches to the volunteers at the mass COVID-19 vaccination site at Joliet West High School last week.

The union members worked with Maurie’s Table in Joliet to provide the meals, according to Therese Skwarczynski, president of the union, AFT Local 604.

She said the gesture was meant as a thanks to the Joliet Fire Department staff volunteering their time to vaccinate residents, including Joliet District 86 staff and faculty members.

The union represents 750 certified staff in District 86. Skwarczynski cited a similar effort by teachers from Troy CCUD 30-C to thank volunteers.

The Joliet Fire Department worked with the Will County Health Department and a doctor from AMITA Health to set up the clinic. They’ve administered over 30,000 doses.
