Plainfield South High School student caught with gun, drugs, police say

A Plainfield South High School student was arrested after he was caught with a firearm, ecstasy and marijuana, police said.

About 12:10 p.m. Friday, a detective assigned as a school liaison at Plainfield South High School was notified of a photograph depicting firearms on the Instagram account of a 17-year-old male, Joliet police Sgt. Dwayne English said.

“Upon further investigation, it was determined that one of the firearms was at the juvenile’s residence,” English said.

A firearm with ammunition, as well as ecstasy pills and marijuana, were recovered by detectives at the juvenile’s residence, English said.

The juvenile was taken into custody as Plainfield South High School without incident, English said.

The teen was arrested on probable cause of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition, no firearm owner’s identification card, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

“This incident remains under investigation,” English said.

The teen was taken to River Valley Juvenile Detention Center following his arrest.
