A 78-year-old woman was briefly hospitalized for injuries she suffered in a robbery at the hands of a homeless man and woman, police said.

Vesta Morgan Hall, 32, and Levi S. Young, 25, were both jailed in connection with the robbery in Shorewood.

Vesta Hall

Prosecutors charged the two with robbery and further charged Morgan with the aggravated battery of the woman, court records show.

About 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the robbery report in the parking lot of a business in the 100 block of Brookforest Avenue, police said.

Witnesses assisted police in identifying the robbers, who had fled, police said.

Officers rendered aid to the woman who was injured when Hall “forcefully attempted to remove the victim’s purse from her shoulder,” police said.

“In doing so, the victim suffered injuries to her head, neck, hand and knee,” police said.

The woman was taken by ambulance to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. She was released from the hospital late Monday evening, police said.

Levi Young

Officers found Young driving in the vehicle that fled the scene, police said.

Young and Hall were arrested and booked into the Will County jail about 7 p.m.

Young was convicted in 2017 of failing to register as a sex offender, court records show.

Judge Carla Alessio Policandriotes gave Young to probation for the offense, which was then revoked after he violated the terms of his sentence, records show. Judge Edward Burmila then sentenced him to three years in prison in 2019.

Prosecutors said in a court filing that Young is a “convicted juvenile sex offender” who claimed he had been residing the Daybreak shelter in Joliet when he had living elsewhere.
