Joliet man sentenced to 50 years for predatory sexual assault of child

A Joliet man was sentenced to 50 years in prison after he was convicted of the predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

On Tuesday, Judge Dan Rippy handed down the sentence for William Dominiak, 74, of the 400 block of Kungs Way.

Dominiak pleaded guilty Oct. 14 to committing sexual acts with a girl over a two-year period from 2009 to 2011 when she was between 6 and 7, according to a news release from Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow.

Glasgow called Dominiak a “horrific child predator” who used the girl for his own sexual gratification through “fear and manipulation, all while appearing to the outside world as a wholesome, godly man.”

“He showed his true character to the outside world at today’s sentencing hearing – not only did he refuse to make any statement of remorse for his conduct, but went on to say that the abuse was exaggerated,” Glasgow said.

Glasgow commended the bravery of the victim who came forward.

“She and her family face a long journey of working to heal and recover that no child or family should have to face because she endured the sick and selfish ongoing acts of sexual abuse perpetrated by William Dominiak,” Glasgow said.

Dominiak received about three years of credit for time already served while incarcerated. Dominiak has been in the Will County jail since Dec. 1, 2018.

Dominiak will have to register as a sexual predator for life as a consequence of his conviction.

Glasgow thanked the work of Will County Assistant State’s Attorneys Kelly Tebo and Jeff Brown.

Glasgow also thanked the work of victim witness advocated Danette Pasdertz, retired Joliet police Detective Shawn Filipiak and Cruz Arzuaga, a forensic interviewer for the Will County Children’s Advocacy Center.

The victim was interviewed by the advocacy center, which Glasgow said he founded in 1995 to provide “hope, healing, and justice to sexually abused children.”
