Union Pacific employee killed in ‘industrial mishap,’ coroner says

A Union Pacific employee died after he was struck in the head by a pulley wheel from a crane at the company’s maintenance building in Joliet, police said.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, officers assisted an emergency crew with Joliet Fire Department with a report of an injured employee at Union Pacific’s maintenance building, 2500 Centerpoint Way, Joliet police officials said.

“It was determined that the employee was struck in the head by a pulley wheel from a crane,” police said.

Artur Englart, 49, of Darien was identified as the injured employee and he was taken by ambulance to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, police said.

Englart was pronounced deceased at 11:10 a.m. in the hospital’s emergency room, according to the Will County Coroner’s office.

A preliminary autopsy report revealed Englart suffered “multiple injuries due to an industrial mishap,” according to the coroner’s office.

The Joliet Police Department and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration have opened an investigation into Englart’s death.
