A Plainfield man died after he reportedly jumped from a sixth floor window when an officer responded to a domestic disturbance, police said.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the Louis Joliet Apartments at 22 E. Clinton St. for a report of a domestic disturbance, according to a statement released by the Joliet Police Department.

Officers arrived and encountered a woman who “indicated that her boyfriend had taken her property and was currently in her apartment,” police said.

An officer escorted the woman to her apartment on the sixth floor and met with a man who was later identified as 31-year-old Joseph McCloud, police said.

Once in the apartment, an officer saw drug paraphernalia in McCloud’s hand, police said.

“The officer intervened after the male approached the female at which time the male walked into the bedroom of the apartment,” police said.

The officer entered the bedroom to speak to McCloud and discovered that he had “jumped from the sixth floor bedroom window,” police said.

“Officers located the male on the ground below and immediately began lifesaving measures,” police said.

The man was taken by ambulance to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

“This incident remains under investigation,” police said.

Joliet police Sgt. Dwayne English said no foul play is suspected in McCloud’s death.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Will County Coroner’s Office said McCloud was pronounced deceased at 6:19 p.m. at the Joliet hospital.

A preliminary examination of McCloud revealed he suffered “multiple injuries due to a fall from height,” the coroner’s office said.
