A pedestrian was killed and another injured after they were struck by a vehicle in Braidwood.

Wayne Biros, 36, of Braidwood, died after he was struck by a Volkswagen, according to a statement from the Braidwood Police Department.

About 5:30 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian in the area of Coal City and Novy roads, police said.

Officers arrived and determined that a 2013 Volkswagen was heading south on Novy Road when it struck two male pedestrians in the roadway, police said.

Both pedestrians were hospitalized and one of them – Biros – was declared dead at the hospital, police said.

Because of the severity of the crash, the reconstruction team from Illinois State Police was called to assist in the investigation, police said.

Officers did not suspect that “speed or alcohol was a factor for the driver of the Volkswagen,” police said.

“We ask that pedestrians utilize marked crosswalks for everyone’s safety along with reflective clothing,” police said.

Anyone with information on the incident should contact the Braidwood Police Department at 815-458-2342.
