Shorewood man arrested on child porn charge

A Shorewood man was arrested on a charge of child pornography after an investigation that involved the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.

About 5:30 p.m. Thursday, John Cottingim, 58, of the 500 block of Buckingham Place, was booked into the Will County jail on four counts of child pornography.

Shorewood Deputy Police Chief Jason Barten said the investigation of Cottingim began with information police received from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children.

Once Cottingim was identified as a suspect in the case, Shorewood police requested assistance from the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, Barten said.

“There were a lot of hands in this investigation,” Barten said.

Barten said Cottingim was arrested at his home.
