Bolingbrook man arrested on child pornography charges

Man investigated by U.S. Department of Homeland Security

A Bolingbrook man was jailed on child pornography charges stemming from an investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

About 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Jose Ramon Cervantes-Diaz, 50, of the 400 block of Salem Square, was jailed on three counts of child pornography.

Cervantes-Diaz was scheduled for a court hearing Wednesday morning and will appear for another hearing on Nov. 18, according to Will County jail records.

Will County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said deputies picked up Cervantes-Diaz on the arrest warrant Tuesday.

Will County Judge Ed Burmila signed a $100,000 bond warrant for Cervantes-Diaz’s arrest.

Will County State’s Attorney spokeswoman Carole Cheney said the case came to their office from the Department of Homeland Security, which received a tip that a person in the Chicago area was using a messaging application for child pornography.

Cheney said the department was able to “make contact with the alleged offender who made his cellphone available.”

A criminal complaint filed against Cervantes-Diaz alleged that he possessed child pornography on his cellphone on Sept. 15.
