A Chicago man has been charged with stealing cigarettes, lottery tickets, cash and cash registers in Crete while armed with a firearm.

Will County Judge Ken Zelazo signed a warrant on Oct. 1 for the arrest of Thomas Jones, 21, of the 8200 block of South Carpenter Street on charges of armed robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, court records show.

On Thursday, a grand jury returned a bill of indictment against Jones that accused him of robbing two people on June 8 in Crete.

The indictment accused Jones of stealing cash, cigarettes and lottery tickets from a woman by “threatening the imminent use of force” while he was armed with a firearm.

Jones was further charged with stealing cash, cigarettes and cash registers from a man while also armed with a firearm.

The indictment accused Jones of having a previous conviction of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in Cook County for possessing a firearm with an extended magazine.

Zelazo’s warrant carries a $300,000 bond.

Jones was not in jail as of Monday.
