Plainfield man charged with sending woman threatening text

A Plainfield man was briefly jailed on charges that accused of him of sending offensive and threatening text messages to a woman.

Judge Fred Harvey signed a warrant on June 8 for the arrest of Tristan Payton, 38, but he was not jailed until about 11:15 a.m. Thursday, court records show.

Prosecutors alleged in a criminal complaint that Payton sent the woman text messages that said, “I SHOULD HAVE CHIKED U HALF WAY TO DEATH,” and “It’s on for the rest of my life you dumb (expletive).”

Prosecutors alleged Payton also sent the woman a text that said, “I’LL COME TO YO HOUSE N BLOW U AWAYYYYY.”

About 5:15 p.m. on April 11, a woman went to the Bolingbrook Police Department to report threatening text messages she received from Payton, who was a former friend, said Bolingbrook police Capt. Anthony Columbus.

The woman had been involved in an altercation with Payton in Berwyn on April 10 and reported the incident to the police department there, Columbus said.

“After filing the report, the victim began receiving threats against her and her family from Payton, including threats to shoot her,” Columbus said.

The arrest warrant for Payton was issued June 8 but attempts to locate him were unsuccessful, Columbus said.

Payton appeared in court Thursday and pleaded not guilty to two counts of harassment through electronic communication. He was released from jail about 9:15 p.m. Thursday after he posted bond.

Last year, Payton was indicted on charges of aggravated battery to a Bolingbrook police officer, domestic battery to a woman, interfering with the report of domestic violence and resisting arrest, court records show. The case remains pending.
