Juvenile charged with attempted theft of a vehicle at Bolingbrook auto shop

Officers responded to burglary report at Amerimex Mufflers and Brakes

A juvenile was arrested in Bolingbrook after police investigated an attempted burglary of a vehicle at Amerimex Mufflers and Brakes, police said.

At 12:10 a.m. on Tuesday, officers went to Amerimex Mufflers and Brakes, 213 S. Bolingbrook Drive, in response to a report of a burglar alarm, Bolingbrook police officials said.

Officers arrived at the scene and saw a broken window and blood on the entrance door, police said. They entered the business but did not find anyone inside.

“Upon reviewing security video, a subject wearing a jean jacket and ski mask could be seen breaking the window with a brick and making entry into the business,” police said.

The suspect appeared to grab a set of keys and unsuccessfully attempted to steal a van from the parking lot, police said. The suspect then fled on foot.

Officers searched the area and found a juvenile in Fernwood Drive who matched the description of the suspect from the security video, police said.

The juvenile was taken into custody for a curfew violation.

“Subsequent investigation led to additional charges of burglary, attempt motor vehicle theft and criminal damage to property,” police said.

The juvenile was then taken to River Valley Juvenile Detention Center in Joliet.

Bolingbrook police did not respond to questions on Tuesday about the juvenile such as their age or gender.
