Tinley Park man charged with grooming teen

Man attempted to solicit girl for sex through texting relationship, police said

A Tinley Park man has been charged with grooming and soliciting a 14-year-old girl into engaging in sexual acts.

On June 16, Will County Sheriff’s detectives opened an investigation into Michael Riccio, 35, after receiving a complaint of grooming involving him and a 14-year-old female, according to the sheriff’s office.

“During the investigation it was discovered by detectives, that the offender and the 14-year-old girl had been texting each other for approximately one month,” police said.

Police detectives said they could see the texts and determined they were “sexually explicit in nature.”

Detectives said that as the texting relationship appeared to progress, Riccio tried to meet with the 14-year-old girl for sex. On Monday, detectives obtained a search warrant for Riccio’s cellphone and he was taken into custody for questioning.

“Detectives interviewed Michael Riccio in reference to this investigation, and he made incriminating statements to detectives,” police said.
