Joliet man arrested after Shorewood car chase: cops

Officer caught man after he crashed his Dodge Durango, police said

A Joliet man ended up in handcuffs after he led a Shorewood police officer on a car chase and crashed his Dodge Durango, police said.

Makhi Jones, 27, of the 1400 block of Devonshire Drive was jailed on multiple felony charges in connection with the incident on Thursday.

Shorewood Deputy Police Chief Eric Allen said an officer saw a Dodge Durango traveling 58 mph in a 40 mph zone on Route 52.

The officer caught up with Jones and activated the squad vehicle’s lights, Allen said. The Dodge Durango refused to stop, which led to a pursuit, he said.

At one point, the Dodge Durango traveled 85 mph on Black Road, he said.

The officer eventually ended the pursuit but then he heard a crash occurred near the intersection of River Road and Theodore Street, Allen said.

The officer found the vehicle, approached it and saw Jones climbing out from the front passenger door, Allen said. Jones fled on foot but was ultimately apprehended in the 1300 block of Major Drive, he said.

The officer later discovered a firearm that was believed to have been discarded by Jones during the vehicle pursuit, Allen said.

Jones was charged with resisting an officer aggravated fleeing, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a weapon by felon, court records show.

Jones remains in the Will County jail on a $75,000 bond and will need $7,500 for his release.
