A Joliet man found himself facing new charges after police said he attempted to strike an officer at the Budget Inn Express.
On Wednesday, Ryan Johnson, 36, was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer, criminal trespass to property and resisting an officer in connection with the incident.
Johnson already faces charges over a March 20 incident where he reportedly made lewd comments to women at a Joliet CVS, urinated in the parking lot and attempted to strike one of the responding officers, Joliet police said.
About 3:38 a.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to a report of a disturbance at Budget Inn Express, 1806 McDonough Street, and determined Johnson was “extremely intoxicated” and causing a disturbance, Joliet police said.
Officers already responded to the hotel earlier for Johnson and he was hospitalized at the time “due to his level of intoxication,” police said.
“Johnson returned to the Budget Inn Express after release from the hospital an hour later and was again causing a disturbance at the hotel,” police said.
Johnson refused numerous commands by officers to leave the hotel and he then “swung at an officer, not making contact,” police said.
“Johnson was taken to the ground by officers and placed into custody. Johnson sustained a minor laceration to his forehead during the incident,” police said.
Officers requested an ambulance to take Johnson to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for treatment, police said, and he was transported to the Will County jail after he was cleared from the hospital.
After Johnson’s March 20 arrest, he spent almost 40 days in jail until he posted 10% of his $20,000 bond and was released on April 28, jail records show.
On the same day of his release, a judge ordered Johnson to undergo a psychological evaluation to determine if he was fit to stand trial.
