Joliet man struck, bit guards at St. Joe’s hospital: cops

Man taken to hospital after car crash, police said

A Joliet man was arrested after he struck a security guard and bit another guard at a hospital, police said.

About 11:10 p.m. Monday, officers responded to Glenwood Avenue and North Larkin Avenue in response to a traffic crash, according to a Joliet police news release.

While investigating the crash, officers determined that Brian Guzman-Pena, 19, of the 1400 block of River Haven Trail, was taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center from the scene of the crash, police said.

At the hospital, it was reportedly determined that Guzman was under the influence of marijuana, police said.

“While being treated at the hospital, Guzman-Pena was making verbal threats to harm hospital staff and eventually struck a security guard in the face with a closed fist and bit a second security guard,” police said.

Guzman-Pena was arrested and taken to the Will County jail about 5:04 a.m. Tuesday after his release from the hospital.

Guzman-Pena was charged with aggravated battery Tuesday.

He was also charged with driving under the influence of a drug, driving on a suspended license, failure to reduce speed, improper traffic lane usage, disregarding a traffic control light and failure to obey a yield sign, court records show.
