Man brandishes gun, threatens to kill girlfriend at Joliet hotel: cops

Woman was able to flee, call 911 when boyfriend left hotel in her car, police said

A man punched a woman multiple times, pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her while the two were staying a Joliet hotel, police said.

About 6 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the Sam’s Club at 321 S. Larkin Ave. after receiving a report of a domestic battery and spoke with a woman who said she had been attacked by her boyfriend Joel Vieyra, 32, of Joliet, police said.

The officers conducted further investigation and learned the couple were in a room at the 1806 McDonough St. Budget Inn when the incident took place, according to police.

Vieyra had punched his girlfriend about 10 times, slapped her five times and would not allow her to leave the room, police said.

“Later in the day, Vieyra pointed a firearm at the victim while threatening to kill her,” police said.

When Vieyra left the hotel in his girlfriend’s vehicle, she fled to Sam’s Club to call 911, police said.

A description of Vieyra was given to other officers in the area. Shortly afterward, officers learned Crest Hill police officers found Vieyra at the 2109 Plainfield Road Crest Hill Inn.

Vieyra was arrested and officers found a loaded firearm on the floorboard of a vehicle he was driving, police said.

Vieyra was arrested on probable cause of domestic battery, interfering with the report of domestic violence, unlawful possession of a weapon by felon and aggravated assault. He was taken to the Will County jail and his bond was set at $100,000.
