Frankfort Township man jailed on child porn charge

Investigation of the man began in December 2019

A Frankfort Township man was jailed after an investigation of the possible sharing and uploading of hundreds of child porn videos and images online, police said.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Michael Kennedy, 25, of the 100 block of Luther Lane was taken to jail on three felony counts of child pornography, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

In Dec. 2019, the “sheriff’s office investigation unit received a cyber-tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce regarding an individual who was possibly sharing and uploading hundreds of child pornography videos and images online,” police said.

Detectives began a “thorough investigation” that led them to identify the suspect as Kennedy, police said.

“A search warrant of Kennedy’s home was executed in late August 2020 and several electronic devices were collected. Detectives also interviewed Kennedy on that day where he made several statements implicating himself,” police said.

Over the next several months, forensic examinations were implemented on the devices, police said. After the completion of the full investigation, detectives secured a warrant for Kennedy’s arrest on Monday.

“Kennedy was picked up at his residence in Frankfort this morning and was taken into custody without incident,” police said.

Kennedy remains in jail on a $150,000 bond.
