Will County jail inmate spat on guard: cops

A Will County jail inmate has been charged with spitting on guard who was giving him food through the open hatch of his cell, police said.

On Jan. 27, Victor Hall, 29, of Chicago was charged with aggravated battery in connection with the incident. Hall has been in the Will County jail since July 6 on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and theft.

While a guard was distributing food to Hall on Jan. 26 through an open hatch of his cell, Hall “put his face up to the hatch” and spat on the guard, said Will County Sheriff spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer.

During Hall’s bond hearing, Judge Brian Barrett found probable cause to continue Hall’s detention in jail and increased his bond by $50,000, court records show.

Hall’s bond currently sits at $350,000 and he will need to post $35,000 for his release from jail.

On Dec. 12, a grand jury returned an indictment against Hall that charged him with striking a correctional employee’s face and body, court records show. Hall faces charges of aggravated battery in connection with the incident.

Hall was first arrested July 6 when he was charged with stealing and possessing a Chevrolet Express van in Joliet.

Hall was paroled from Dixon Correctional Center on Dec. 31, 2019. He was serving a seven-year sentence after he was convicted of possessing a stolen motor vehicle in Livingston County, court records show.

He was previously convicted of burglary and residential burglary in Cook County, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
