New Lenox man threw 2 French bulldogs during Christmas Day altercation: cops

A New Lenox man was jailed on animal cruelty charges after he threw two French bulldogs across a room during a verbal altercation on Christmas Day, injuring one of the animals, police said.

The arrest of Steven Davis, 48, of the 1200 block of Town Crest Drive came after officers responded to two separate domestic disturbances involving Davis on Dec. 19 and Dec. 25, according to New Lenox Deputy Police Chief Micah Nuesse.

On Dec. 19, officers were sent to his residence and learned Davis had pushed a woman during a verbal altercation, Nuesse said. The investigation led to a warrant for Davis’ arrest on a charge of domestic battery.

On Dec. 25, officers were once again sent to his residence in response to a welfare check, Nuesse said. Officers were told that Davis threw two family dogs across the room during a verbal altercation, he said.

The two canines were French bulldogs, Nuesse said.

Later in the evening, a woman at the residence discovered one of the French bulldogs — named Drago — was injured and she took the dog to an emergency veterinarian, who “surmised that the dog had sustained trauma to the eye, and needed medical treatment,” Nuesse said.

Detectives began an investigation into the incident, which led to an issuance of an animal cruelty arrest warrant for Davis, Nuesse said.

A criminal complaint against Davis charged him with felony aggravated cruel treatment of animals for causing serious damage to Drago’s eye, and also charged him with misdemeanor cruel treatment of animals for throwing Drago.

Davis remained in the Will County jail Friday afternoon on a $25,000 bond.
