Sedan driver killed in I-55 crash involving semi near Channahon

The driver of a sedan was killed in a crash involving a semitrailer on Interstate 55 near Channahon.

About 11:50 a.m. Friday, a 36-year-old man from Gardner was traveling north on I-55 at mile marker 244 when struck the rear-end of a semitrailer driven by a 52-year-old man from Roanoke, Virginia, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police.

The 36-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene.

The northbound lanes of I-55 at River Road were closed for the investigation and opened again about 3:30 p.m., police said.

“The events surrounding the crash remain under investigation and no further information is available at this time,” police said.

The Will County Coroner’s Office has not released the identity of the Gardner man as of 4:30 p.m. Friday.
