Two men were wounded when one accidentally fired a pistol while they were behind a West Jefferson Street barbershop Wednesday, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the emergency room of AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center after the two men arrived at the hospital about 5:15 p.m., according to a statement released by the Joliet police Department.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the incident occurred behind a barbershop located in the 1000 block of West Jefferson,” police said.

The shooting was in the back of 1005 W. Jefferson St., which is the address for A.D. Fadez Barber and Beauty Lounge.

Officers determined that a man was “handling” a 9 mm pistol when it “accidentally discharged striking him in the left ring finger and the same round struck an additional male adult victim in the right leg,” police said.

The men were taken to St. Joe’s in a private vehicle, according to police.

The pistol was recovered at the barbershop, police said, and the matter remains under investigation.
