A man attempted to rob a Joliet Wendy’s by demanding money from a cashier at the drive-thru window and revealing he had a firearm in his waistband, police said.

About 11:30 a.m. Friday, officers responded to the Wendy’s at 110 S. Larkin Ave. in response to a report of a robbery in progress, according to a statement released by the Joliet Police Department.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they determined that a man had attempted to commit a robbery while standing at the drive-thru window, police said.

The man had first ordered a children’s meal while in the drive-thru area before he walked up to the cashier’s window and paid for the order, police said.

“At this point, the suspect pulled up his shirt, revealing a handgun in his waistband. The suspect demanded money from the cashier at which time the cashier retreated further in the restaurant,” police said.

The man then fled on foot from the area.

“It is unknown if the suspect stole any money,” police said.

The robbery suspect was described as a man in his early 20s, about 5-foot-5 with a thin build, and wearing “unknown clothing” and armed with a “black handgun,” police said.

The police asked anyone with information or video footage to contact Detective James Kilgore at 815-724-3235, or Will County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-323-6734 or crimestoppersofwillcounty.org if they wish to remain anonymous.
