Lincoln-Way East dominates in win over Bolingbrook

Every Griffin starter collects at least one hit

BOLINGBROOK – Lincoln-Way East is not lacking offensive firepower.

Friday’s game against Bolingbrook showed that. All nine Griffins starters had at least one hit as Lincoln-Way East cruised to a 13-0 win over the Raiders in five innings.

Bolingbrook was able to escape the first inning but the Griffins were able to put up crooked numbers in the second, fourth and fifth innings.

Sophia Thormeyer drove in the first run of the game with a single. Katie Stewart drove in two more with a sharp single. Danielle Stewart doubled home the fourth run of the game.

Bolingbrook was able to navigate out of a second and third no out situation in the third but the Griffins busted the game wide open scoring five runs in the fourth inning. The frame started with the most unique play in the game. Chloe Geijer crushed a majestic flyball into the gusting wind. The ball fell to the right of the right fielder and Geijer raced all the way to the plate for an inside-the-park homerun. It was the first of five consecutive extra base hits including three straight triples which helped the Griffins to a 9-0 lead.

“She has great speed. She was out of the box hard,” teammate Danielle Stewart said. “She knew what she wanted and knew she was going home the entire way. She was busting it through to make sure she could score a run for us.”

Lincoln-Way East (9-2) continued to tee off in the fifth inning. Taylor Zawacki led off the inning with her second hit of the game. She was driven in by Danielle Stewart’s double. Danielle Stewart finished the game with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs.

“I was just trying to see the ball and look for strikes and make sure I hit the ball hard,” Danielle Stewart said. “I’ve been hitting a lot of popups lately. I’m just trying to work for my teammates and our pitching and make a difference instead of making outs that tend to put us behind a little bit.”

The runs were more than enough for Emma Parrish, who had no trouble navigating through the Bolingbrook lineup. Parrish gave up only two hits, a wind blown double and a fifth inning single. Other than those two at bats she was lights out striking out seven.

“My team behind me had my back. When I gave up hits, they took care of it and they also hit for me. Just knowing I have that little bit of cushion; it helps me stay calm. I try to stay composed either but just having that cushion in case something does happen is nice.”
