PLAINFIELD – Plainfield South pitcher Tylor Phommachanhom had a secret weapon for Plainfield Central heading into the seventh inning.
With a one-run lead, Phommachanhom told Cougars coach Phil Bodine about his little-used knuckleball. Bodine was a little weary about him using the pitch but saw it during warmups between innings and told him to go to it. Phommachanhom did just that, throwing two stifling knuckleballs before fanning Nate Buchan with a fastball to end the game with Jack Irwin on third base. The strikeout preserved the slimmest of leads in a 6-5 win over Central on Tuesday at Plainfield South.
