Joliet Catholic’s boys basketball team captured the Aurora Christian Invitational title with a 72-48 win over Aurora Christian on Saturday in Aurora.
Alex Brown and Eli Hunter led the way for the Hilltoppers with 12 points apiece. Anthony Birsa and Kyle Simon each added 10.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Annawan 62, Seneca 53: At Annawan, Kennedy Hartwig exploded for 35 points for the Irish, but it still was not enough in a road loss. Hartwig knocked down five 3-pointers.
WRESTLING
Dan Gable Donnybrook: At Coralville, Iowa, Lockport finished eighth out of 33 teams at the Dan Gable Donnybrook. Joliet Catholic took 19th and Lincoln-Way West was 25th.
Brayden Thompson led the way for the Porters by placing first at 170 pounds. Thompson beat Takte Naaktgeboren of Linn-Mar (Iowa) to take first.
Carlos Munoz-Flores also excelled for the Porters with a runner-up finish at 132 pounds. Keegan Roberson came seventh at 152 pounds.
Gylon Sims finished fifth at 120 pounds for JCA, Mason Alessio was fifth at 152 and Owen Gerdes was fifth at 220.
Michael Sneed highlighted the day for Lincoln-Way West by taking sixth at 220.
Plainfield North Mega Duals: At Plainfield, Lincoln-Way Central went 4-0 by picking up dual wins over York (53-22), Dundee-Crown (57-24), Canton (43-25) and Willowbrook (50-24).
Nathan Knowlton and Conor Smetana led the Knights with three wins apiece.
