The Joliet Catholic football team took a long road trip to St. Louis on Saturday and came home happy after a 30-20 victory over one of Missouri’s historically better programs, Cardinal Ritter Prep.
The Hilltoppers (2-0) got rushing touchdowns from Vinny Iannantone and Ryan Louthan, while Aidan Voss hit Malachi Hood for a touchdown pass.
Joliet Catholic, the No. 1-ranked team in the Associated Press Class 4A poll, played without standout running back Jordan Anderson, who sat out the game with an injury.
Peotone 34, North Central (Ind.) 8: The Blue Devils improved to 2-0 with an easy win over their hosts from Indiana.
Dylan Sroka powered his way to 189 rushing yards and two scores.
BOYS SOCCER
Minooka 1, Waubonsie Valley 1: At Aurora, Minooka was forced to settle for a draw on the road.
Minooka’s Tyler Colwell scored once on an assist from Mateo Reyes, and keeper Cade Ooms made three saves.
GIRLS TENNIS
Lincoln-Way West Team Tournament: At New Lenox, the Warriors took fourth place as tournament hosts.
Doubles teams Cate Gerl and Hannah White, Megan Klee and Madison Wasko, Ashley Lee and Halie Forsythe along with Cate Cosgrove and Kristen Shepard led the way for L-WW.
Providence, Joliet Catholic and Plainfield East also participated in the event – finishing fifth, sixth and eighth place, respectively.
