Lincoln-Way Central is a Class 3A girls soccer regional champion after a 7-0 win over Homewood-Flossmoor on Saturday in New Lenox.
The win advances the Knights to sectional semifinals where they will play Andrew on Tuesday at home.
SOFTBALL
Seneca 4, Coal City 3: At Seneca, the Coalers came up just short of a regional crown, instead taking a narrow loss to the Fighting Irish.
After falling behind early, the Coalers battled back in the third inning to within a run, allowed another run in the sixth, then saw a seventh-inning rally stall just short of the comeback.
Natalie Teague homered and drove in two runs for the Coalers in the season-ending loss. Makayla Henline was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
BOYS TENNIS
Lincoln-Way East 25, Homewood-Flossmoor 22, Lincoln-Way Central 21, Andrew 16, Lincoln-Way West 12, Thornwood 2, Crete-Monee 2, Joliet West 0, TF South 0: At Frankfort, the Griffins won a sectional championship with an impressive effort, while the Knights took third and the Warriors finished fifth.
Andrew Ernst and Tanner Leonard led the way for East with a second-place finish in doubles competition, while Manuel Tsoukatos and John Kenny took third and fourth place, respectively, in singles.
Collin Bush was excellent for Lincoln-Way Central, taking first overall in singles, and the team of Matthew Soldan and Aidan Soldan finished third in doubles.
Lincoln-Way West was led by a fourth-place finish in doubles from the team of Milan Miskovic and Jacob Stermin.
Hinsdale Central 28, Naperville North 11, Lockport 6, Downers Grove North 6, Downers Grove South 6, Romeoville 4, Argo 0, Bolingbrook 0: At Hinsdale, the Porters played well enough for third place, and Romeoville took sixth at the Class 2A Hinsdale Central sectional.
Bryce Ranchero was the best local individual performer, taking third place overall in singles for Romeoville.
Neuqua Valley 27, Naperville Central 26, Waubonsie Valley 16, Oswego East 12, Plainfield South 8, Minooka 7, Plainfield East 4, Plainfield North 2, Plainfield Central 0: At Minooka, Oswego East finished fourth to lead local teams at the Class 2A Minooka Sectional.
Manny Campuzano finished in third place overall in singles for Minooka.
Nazareth 26, Benet 25, Hinsdale South 19, Lemont 18, Brother Rice 4, Lisle 4, Joliet Catholic 2, Providence 0, St. Laurence 0: At Darien, Lemont took fourth place, and Joliet Catholic finished seventh at the Class 1A Hinsdale South sectional.
Lemont’s doubles team of Safin Saraiya and Nathan Svoboda took fourth place.
Metamora 35, Ottawa 16, Streator 12, Coal City 10, Morris 10, Princeton 8, LaSalle-Peru 7, Pontiac 0, St. Bede 0: At Ottawa, Coal City and Morris tied for third place at the Class 1A Ottawa sectional.
Tyler Johnson took fourth place in singles to lead the Coalers.
BOYS LACROSSE
Plainfield North 14, Dunlap 7: At Plainfield, the Tigers doubled up Dunlap to pick up a postseason victory.
The win advanced North to Monday’s sectional quarterfinals where they will take on Neuqua Valley in Naperville.
