COMPETITIVE DANCE
IHSA State Finals: Providence was in first place after Friday’s preliminaries and made it hold up Saturday to claim the Class 1A state championship at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington. The Celtics finished with a score of 94.66, topping runner-up Jacksonville’s score of 93.26. Morris finished third with a score of 92.90, while Joliet Catholic took sixth with a score of 88.60.
In Class 2A, Lincoln-Way West finished sixth with a score of 89.66.
BOYS BOWLING
IHSA State Finals: At St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon, Lincoln-Way East finished in 10th place. The Griffins finished with a 12-game score of 11,840. They were led by Dalen Yahnke (2,551), Jacob Przybylinski (2,472), Frank Bakon (2,325), Mason Kristin (2,258), Jake Marks (2,058, 11 games) and Aiden Yesner (176, 1 game).
GIRLS WRESTLING
Metamora Regional: Lincoln-Way Central won the team title with 248 points, followed by Minooka (134), Joliet Central (103), Morris (101) and Plainfield South (87.5). Hinsdale South Regional: Lockport finished second with 150.0 points, just a half-point behind champion Batavia. Advancing to the sectional were Aven Colella of Lockport (3rd) at 105; Veronica Skibicki of Lockport (2nd) at 110; Alejanda Flores of Bolingbrook (1st) at 115; Molly O’Connor of Lemont (1st) at 125; Claudia Heeney of Lockport (1st) at 135; Viktoria Rodnikova of Plainfield North (3rd) at 140; Sophie Kelner of Lockport (2nd) at 190; and Rebekah Ramirez of Lockport (1st), Henessis Villagrana of Romeoville (2nd) and Rowyn Page of Lemont (3rd) at 235.
Pontiac Regional: Dwight’s Avery Crouch finished first at 135 and advanced to the sectional.
COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING
Joliet West Sectional: Lockport won the championship in the Large Team-1 Division with a score of 94.20 and advanced to the state competition. In the Large Team-2 Division, Lincoln-Way West won the title with a score of 95.57. Also advancing in the division were Lincoln-Way East (3rd, 93.83) and Lincoln-Way Central (4th, 93.70). In the Medium Team Division, Lemont (2nd, 94.70) and Providence Catholic (3rd, 93.17) advanced to state, while state qualifiers in the Small Team Division were Wilmington (3rd, 90.33) and Joliet Catholic Academy (89.67).
Farmington Sectional: Morris won the title in the Medium Team Division with a score of 91.80 and qualified for the state competition. In the Large Team Division, Minooka (4th, 88.97) qualified for state, while Romeoville (3rd, 93.43) qualified in the Coed Team Division.
Mascoutah Sectional: Joliet Central finished second with a score of 88.33 in the Coed Division and advanced to the state competition.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Lincoln-Way West 65, Oak Forest 43: At the Lincoln-Way West Warriors Showdown, Wyatt Carlson led the Warriors (12-12) with 23 points, while John Schwerha added 15.
Lincoln-Way East 69, TF South 61: At the Warriors Showdown, East (15-8) got 22 points from Braden Sanders, with Cooper Johnson adding 14.
Lemont 55, Fenwick 46: At the Warriors Showdown, Matas Gadiukevicius led Lemont with 18 points, while Zane Schneider scored 16 and Gabe Sularski added nine.
Joliet Catholic 76, Chicago Ag Science 58: At the Beecher Shootout, Donavyn Simmons led the Hilltoppers with 23 points, while Eli Passehl scored 19 and JJ Sterrett scored 13.
Providence 51, Sandwich 40: Ryan Lipke led the Celtics to the nonconference win with 15 points, while Seth Cheney scored 14 and Kelechi Enyia added 10.
Plainfield East 75, Addison Trail 72: KJ Miller led the Bengals with 24 points, while Kobe Jordan and Jayden Cawthon each scored 11.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Morris 59, Rochelle 44: Layken Callahan had 28 points and five rebounds to lead Morris (21-3, 6-2) to the Interstate Eight Conference win, while Landrie Callahan had 11 points. Lily Hansen added eight points and six rebounds.
Seneca 36, Lanark Eastland 35: At the Seneca Shootout, Graycen Provance hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Irish the win. Alyssa Zellers led with 13 points, including the 1,000th of her career, while Evelyn O’Connor scored eight and Provance added seven.
Nazareth Academy 66, Joliet Catholic Academy 34: The Angels suffered the East Suburban Catholic Conference loss.
