Youth tennis: Competitive spirit on display on Day 2 of KSB Tennis Classic

Day 2 of the KSB Tennis Classic featured six more youth divisions Thursday at the Emma Hubbs Tennis Courts at Page Park in Dixon, with the 18 & under boys doubles division capping off a busy day of tennis with a full slate of matches and some nip-and-tuck finishes.

Kayden Loos and Brecken Peterson won 26 games to take the title, just ahead of a tie for second place. The teams of Logan Moeller and Owen Grot, and Kaiser Khawaja and Logan Palmer both won 21 games, and their head-to-head match was a 2-2 tie, forcing a tiebreaker to determine the runner-up. Moeller and Grot won 10-4.

Lucas Healy and Carter Morris were right behind in fourth with 20 games won, and Marvel Zhang and Tyler Bonnell finished fifth (18 games). Sam Mosbarger and Eric Vergane took sixth (14 games), just ahead of seventh-place Koda Brininger and Dawson Newendyke (13 games). Thomas Powers and Kaden Welty placed eighth (8 games), and Yamaan Alkhalaf and Bashar Elbzour were ninth (3 games).

The 18 & under girls doubles division was also a tight race, as Addison Arjes and Grace Ferguson won 11 games to take the title. Marisel Schalck and Julia Rhodes were second (7 games), just ahead of third-place Leah Kuehl and Chloe Coil (6 games).

The day started with the 14 & under boys and girls doubles divisions. Brooklyn and Addison Arjes earned the girls title with 23 games won, with Meerna Elbzour and Leah Stees taking second (12 games). Fareeda Alkhalaf and Jenna Mustapha were third (8 games), and Taylor Crownhart and Maddy Taylor finished fourth (5 games).

In 14 & under boys play, Jubraan Alkhalaf and Kaiser Khawaja defeated Tarek Khawaja and Gage Farster 8-0.

Rachel Lance and Kaiser Khawaja claimed the 16 & under mixed doubles title, wining 19 games to edge out runners-up Fareeda and Yamaan Alkhalaf (17 games). Meerna and Bashar Elbzour took third (10 games), and Jenna Mustapha and Jubraan Alkhalaf finished fourth (2 games).

In the 12 & under mixed doubles division, Braden Bright and Meerna Elbzour downed Tarek Khawaja and Jenna Mustapha 8-5 to claim the crown.
