Football

Six Marcos earn 8-man honors: Senior running back/inside linebacker Cole Faivre was a unanimous selection on both sides of the ball to lead a group of six Polo players named to the Illinois 8-Man North Division All-Association Team, released Tuesday.

Senior Brady Clark was a first-team center and second-team defensive tackle, while senior tight end Joey Bardell, senior guard Julian Warczak, and junior defensive end Wayde Reimer were also first-team selections.

Senior Parker Wolber was a second-team pick at both running back and defensive back for the Marcos.

Volleyball

Locals earn TRAC West all-conference honors: Fulton senior Kylie Collachia was a unanimous selection on the Three Rivers West all-conference volleyball team.

Collachia was one of four unanimous picks, along with Orion senior Ashley Awbrey, Riverdale senior Shae Hanrahan, and Sherrard’s Mckenna Blackwell.

Fulton junior Teegan Germann was a second-team selection, and Steamers sophomore Gracie Sanderson earned honorable mention honors. Morrison freshman Jordan Eads was also an honorable mention pick.

College track & field

SVCC’s Abell named All-American: Former Erie-Prophetstown pole vaulter Cameron Abell has earned All-American honors at the NJCAA National Championships in Levelland, Texas.

battling unfavorable conditions, Abell cleared 4.30 meters (14 feet, 1.25 inches) to take eighth place, improving on his 11th seed by three spots. His best vault of the year was 14-9, but only one vaulter in the field surpassed their season-best performance.

College softball

Morrison native earns MVC honor: Former Fillies softball standout Monica Wright is part of the Missouri Valley Conference Coaching Staff of the Year, the league announced Wednesday.

In their first year together, Wright and Ryan Jacobs led the University of Northern Iowa to a 30-17 season and a league-leading 20-7 conference record.

UNI also had the Player of the Year in shortstop Sammey Bunch, and the Pitcher of the Year and Newcomer of the Year in Kailyn Packard, along with three other first-team all-conference selections.

MLB

Junis pitches scoreless inning for Royals: Rock Falls native Jakob Junis allowed one hit in a scoreless inning of work for Kansas City in Wednesday’s 4-2 loss to the Tigers in Detroit.

Junis pitched the seventh inning in relief of starter Danny Duffy, giving up a one-out single to Jonathan Schoop before inducing a pair of groundouts from Jeimer Candelario and Miguel Cabrera to end the inning. He threw 12 of his 17 pitches for strikes, and improved his season ERA to 5.14.

NBA

Roby starts again for Thunder: Dixon native Isaiah Roby made his 32nd career start Tuesday night, as Oklahoma City lost 122-106 to the Kings in Sacramento.

Roby finished with nine points, seven rebounds, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot in 26 minutes. He shot 3-for-8 from the field, including 0-for-2 from 3-point range, and was 3-for-4 from the free-throw line.

The Thunder (21-49) are back in action Friday, when they return home to host the Utah Jazz at 7 p.m.
