Roundup: Oregon boys soccer finishes 5th in Big Northern tournament

After finishing regulation and overtime in a scoreless draw, the Oregon Hawks defeated rival Byron in penalty kicks in the fifth-place game of the Big Northern Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon at Oregon Park West.

Owen Ketter made six saves in goal for Oregon (5-7), which won its final two games.

Volleyball

Eastland def. West Carroll 25-10, 20-25, 25-15: The Cougars recovered after a second-set loss to defeat the Thunder in Mount Carroll.

Karlie Krogman slammed 13 kills, and Natalie Hughes dished 36 assists for Eastland (14-2). Addison Burkholder had 16 digs, Talena Rogers served four aces, and Quinc Haverland stuffed two blocks.

Lacey Eissens and Madison Haynes led West Carroll with six kills each, with Hailee Hairing dishing 10 assists and Tori Mosher setting eight assists. Lily O’Connor had 11 digs, Emily Mueller added eight digs, and Katie McGinnis and Daisy Rose McCray had three blocks each.

Fulton swept at home: The Steamers dropped a pair of matches to Three Rivers West foe Orion.

In a 25-22, 20-25, 25-22 loss, Kylie Collachia had 12 kills, 16 assists and 15 digs, while Kaitlyn Bruggenwirth added eight kills, and Gracie Sanderson spiked seven kills to go with 14 digs for Fulton. Teegan Germann had 18 digs and four aces, and Lauren Mahoney added 16 digs. Jersey Boyson chipped in 11 assists and nine digs.

In a 25-20, 25-17 loss, the Steamers got four kills each from Bruggenwirth, Sanderson and Collachia, with Collachia adding 10 assists and eight digs, and Sanderson also finishing with eight digs. Boyson had six assists and seven digs.

NBA

Roby starts again, but Thunder suffer 9th straight loss: Dixon native Isaiah Roby made his 26th career start Friday night, but Oklahoma City lost 110-104 to the Pistons in Detroit, the Thunder’s ninth straight loss and 12th in their last 13 games.

Roby had nine points, four rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots in 22 minutes, shooting 4-for-9 from the field, including 1-for-3 from 3-point range. He has started the last 13 games in which he’s played; he missed four games between April 5 and 10 while in concussion protocol.

The teams were tied 56-56 at halftime, but Detroit got the edge it would need by outscoring OKC 30-23 in the third quarter.

The Thunder (20-36) play again Sunday on the road against the Raptors at 6 p.m.
