Letter: Stop voter suppression

Sauk Valley Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

My oh my, what are the Republicans afraid of? They are bending over backwards to make voting harder. Not easier, but harder.

Forty-seven states are trying to pass 361 bills to suppress the vote. What is up with that? That is so un-American. Their reasoning is because of all of the voter fraud in the last election and that is a total lie. It has been proven time and time again that there was no voter fraud. It was the safest, most fair and free election in our history. So come on Republicans, wake up and smell the coffee. Donald J. Trump was the worst president in our history. He practically ruined our democracy.

The Republican Party is being taken over by white supremacist and militia groups and that is very scary. We need to get back to sanity. The Senate needs to pass HR1, For the People Act. Our democratic institutions have shown their resilience, but also their vulnerability. We cannot let lies replace truth, fantasy conquer reality, and hate triumph over love. We must stand up to the madness, and drive it from our midst. The rightwing puppet-masters are trying to reshape our courts and voting systems. They are gleefully using the distrust they worked so hard to manufacture as a reason for restricting voting access. Lets not let them get away with it. If they are bending over backwards to make it harder to vote, lets bend over backwards to vote. The Republicans have lost their way to self destruction. Max Boot said “The GOP can’t be saved. The center right voters need to become Biden Republicans.” We can only hope.
