Sunday morning traffic crash closes First Avenue Bridge in Sterling

STERLING — First Avenue Bridge was closed for about an hour because of an early morning traffic crash, the Sterling Police Department said in a news release.

The closure extended from Second Street in Sterling to Second Street in Rock Falls. The initial release was sent by Sgt. Ryan Potthoff shortly after 4 a.m.

The bridge was reopened at 5:02 a.m.

Neither news release did not provide any details about the crash. A call to the Police Department’s administrative desk on Sunday morning was not answered.

The city of Sterling was under a snow emergency as of 10 p.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service reported the area receiving 2 inches of snow overnight.
