Grand Detour photographer wins best of show

DIXON – “Emmert’s Farm,” a digital photograph submitted by Bob Logsdon of Grand Detour, was awarded Best in Show for the 17th Farms and Barns Art exhibition at The Next Picture Show.

The winning photograph and many of the 115 individual pieces of art are on display at the gallery through Oct. 16.

Mike McNamara and Beverly Garcia judged the competition, devoted to art works demonstrating farm culture. In all, 10 artists were recognized at the Sept. 10 awards reception.

“Paul’s Farm,” a watercolor by Robert Krajecki of Elburn, took first place. “Rooster,” an illustration of white pencil on black board by Matt Jagitsch of Sterling, took second. “Rusty Pipes,” a watercolor by Roger Goodspeed of Freeport, took third.

Honorable mention recognition went to six submissions: “Barn on Pines Road,” an oil painting by Karen Tucker of Grand Detour; “Midwest,” an oil painting by Kitto of Dixon; “Red Barn Door,” an oil painting by Richard Schmidt of Frankfurt; “Coming Home,” a watercolor by Janet Cederlund of Union; “Wintery Farmstead,” a watercolor by Ellen Mumford of Dixon; and “America’s Heartland,” a photograph on metal by Michele Gillette of Sterling.
