Derby, Barnyard Revue top Whiteside County Fair schedule

MORRISON — The schedule for the 150th Whiteside County Fair features a demolition derby as the closing event for the five-day event that runs Tuesday, Aug. 17 to Saturday, Aug. 21 at the fairgrounds.

Todd Mickley, director of publicity, touted the car-crushing derby as “adrenaline pumping, smoke-filled” entertainment.

The newest attraction is the “All Star Barnyard Revue,” which includes pig racing and a barnyard animal show.

Here’s a brief look at the highlights:

Aug. 17: Professional bull riding, 7 p.m. Also: Western horse show at 8 a.m., poultry judging at 10 a.m., open swine judging at noon, kids tractor pedal pull, 2 p.m. and junior swine judging at 4:30 p.m.

Aug. 18: Home Free, a cappella country music group, 7 p.m. Also: western horse speed trials at 8 a.m. and dairy judging, 9 a.m.

Aug. 19: U.S. FMX Freestyle Motocross, 7 p.m. Also: beef cattle junior show judging, 9 a.m., heavy horse halter classes, 9 a.m. and 4 Horse hitches, 1 p.m.

Aug. 20: Illini State Pullers Association tractors and trucks sled pulling, 6:30 p.m. Also: heavy horse hitch classes, 9 a.m., Open beef show, 9 a.m., Big 6 Horse and Unicorn hitches, 1 p.m. and antique tractor parade, 5:30 p.m.

Aug. 21: Demolition derby, 6:30 p.m. Also: Kids tractor pedal pull, 11 a.m., harness racing, 1 p.m. and wood carving auction, 4 p.m.

In addition there will be midway carnival and attractions by Wilson Family Show; unlimited rides for $60 with season pass ($50 if purchased in advance at the fair office).

Other returning activities are the Grandpa Cratchet Stage Show, the daily Bike Giveaway, and the Cake and Pie Walk.
