I-88 resurfacing begins Monday between Burkett and Red Brick roads in Dixon

DIXON – Roadway resurfacing begins at 7 a.m. Monday on Interstate 88/Reagan Memorial Tollway between Burkett and Red Brick roads, where traffic in both directions will be reduced to a single lane.

The shoulders on this segment of I-88 are too narrow to safely accommodate two lanes of traffic and provide for work zones during construction, the Illinois Tollway said today in a news release.

Traffic reductions will continue through May, and electronic and construction signs will be in place to alert drivers of the closures.

Work zone speed limits are in effect in all construction zones 24/7 and drivers should watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present.

The resurfacing work will extend the life of the roadway and provide a smoother riding surface, it said.

“These types of repairs are necessary to keep the Tollway in good condition for years to come,” Tollway Executive Director José Alvarez said in the release.

“We will make every effort to minimize the impact of construction on our customers and ask drivers to please be patient and obey the work zone speed limits.”
