Services set for Dixon boy, 14, killed in collision Saturday

DIXON – Services are set for Brecken Jayden Kooy-Dixon, 14, of Dixon, who was killed Saturday in a one-vehicle crash near Amboy.

Brecken, an eighth-grader at Reagan Middle School, enjoyed working out, and took Muay Thai classes. He also loved to skateboard and listen to rap music, his family said in his obituary, which is posted at www.prestonschilling.com.

Among others, he is survived by his mother, Rebecca Dixon of Dixon; father, Joshua Kooy of Sterling; siblings Cameo Dixon of Dixon, and Bryce, Griffin, and Kimber Kooy, all of Sterling; and his maternal grandmother, Debra Mull, and his paternal grandmother, Debrah Payne-Wright, both of Dixon.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. A graveside service will be held at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery, with a celebration of Brecken’s life to follow immediately at the family’s home at 1114 S. Ottawa Ave. in Dixon.

Memorials to help defray funeral expenses may be made to GoFundMe for Brecken, who was one of two teens killed when the car they were riding in hit a tree around 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

Cayley Krug, also 14 and of Dixon, was a freshman at Dixon High School. Her visitation also will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, but at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon.

Her funeral Saturday will be private. A memorial has been established to the Dixon High School Athletics Department. Go to www.thejonesfh.com to send condolences.

Another 14-year-old, Madison Rockwood, of Amboy, was treated at Peoria Children’s Hospital, where she was in fair condition Tuesday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

Driver Draven Webb, 19, of Dixon, was taken to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where he was in fair condition Tuesday. Information on his condition was unavailable Wednesday, an OSF spokeswoman said.

The collision occurred around 4:15 p.m. on Robbins Road south of Amboy Road, when the vehicle struck a tree, the release said.

It had been raining the entire day, but it is not known if weather was a factor.

The crash is under investigation, and no further details, including potential citations, if any, were released.
